Cela fait déjà deux ans depuis que je fais partie de la commune ProZ.com. Le site m'a offert la possibilité de travailler avec des agences au niveau international et mon travail et surtout d'apprendre un tas de choses sur notre métier.

When I started freelancing almost ten years ago, I used a variety of methods to reach out to potential clients. I placed an ad in the local yellow pages (no lead whatsoever), I sent out hundreds of emails to translation agencies (this landed me a couple of jobs), but by far the most efficient way of promotion was using the features that are available on ProZ.com.

I've been a member since 2005, Plus member since it started. As it's my only marketing channel I'm quite positive about it. I attended a ProZ.com conference in Eiffel Tower in 2010 and met Henry and other ProZ.com people there. I'll use ProZ.com services for as long as I translate. For me, the most useful function is the Blue Board. All of my clients have come via ProZ.com, both agencies and direct clients, even if not directly via ProZ.com but as recommended by my clients.

I get occasional approaches through my ProZ.com profile, which in itself makes it worthwhile, because one smallish job covers your membership fee. I also use the invoicing feature and free website hosting, so it saves me money in those areas. As others have said the Blue Board is useful and could help you avoid some major headaches. ProZ.com also has a very high rating in Google, so your profile or KudoZ questions you have asked or answered (which will link through to your profile) are likely to come up in web searches, thereby increasing your visibility.

I am convinced that without ProZ.com, I would never have made the contacts I need to work as a full time professional translator. Not only have I received job offers, but I have also established valuable relationships with other translators which have evolved into a mutual support network of trusted colleagues. I would especially encourage you to try to answer KudoZ questions. This will help you build your research skills and demonstrate your competence to fellow translators.

This past year has been great. I woke up one morning deciding to go back to translating full time but I was not 100% sure that my decision was the right one. Thanks to ProZ.com in one year my life has changed, I have now become a full time translator, receiving many jobs from Italy and mainly abroad, I have now created my full time job which I can do from any part of the world or just by staying at home, all of this has been possible thanks to ProZ.com and the friendly and warm community support network! Not only I have increased my clients base but I have also got a longer list of new friends ..all of this couldn't have happened without ProZ.com!!

I have to say that getting jobs (and, more importantly, regular clients) via ProZ.com worked a treat for me ... it's not that big an investment if you want to run a business.

In 2023, I began shutting down my freelance translator work. At 77, I am embarking on new challenges, but always related to the linguistic skills that ProZ helped me to hone.

I began translating professionally in 1992 and I was one of the first adherents to ProZ.com. I have watched it grow and expand, and it has been a great help to me, especially in the early years in garnering clients that I worked with for nearly two decades in some cases. The KudoZ terminology tools were essential in helping me build my own glossaries for the types of jobs I was involved in. I recall the names of colleagues that I never had the chance to meet in person but with whom I interacted on the KudoZ platform. It has been a truly rewarding experience.
