Já em Giaglis, Mylonopoulos & Doukidis (1999), há uma qualificação bem mais ampla dos benefícios, ainda relacionados à adoção de TI. Os benefícios são apresentados como sendo pertencentes a duas categorias, soft e hard. Dentro dos benefícios soft estariam incluídos os benefícios intangíveis e estes benefícios não seriam de fácil expressão em termos quantitativos.

Esta mesma problemática é apresentada mais recentemente por Joshi e Pant (2008) em que a avaliação é dividida em: benefícios decorrentes de TI
facilmente quantificáveis (hard benefits) e benefícios decorrentes de TI
tendencialmente intangíveis e por isso dificilmente quantificáveis (soft benefits).
